FIFA celebration in Long Street – Friday, 04 December 2009

The world has gathered in Long Street, Cape Town, ahead of the final FIFA 2010 World Cup draw tonight. The city centre is abuzz with people streaming towards a massive outdoor party in the city, a few hundred metres from where dignitaries are gathering for the official draw tonight.

Today’s festivities kicked off at midday when popular South African band, Freshly Ground, took to the stage. Other bands included Jamali, TKZee, and the Cassettes, followed. It is billed the biggest party Cape Town has ever seen.

The draw, in the Cape Town International Convention Centre tonight, will separate 32 qualified countries into eight groups of four. South African President Jacob Zuma, FIFA President Sepp Blatter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu – and scores of soccer stars and celebrities – will walk down the red carpet to join one of the most prestigious and widely-televised events in the City’s history.

Festivities are set to continue well into the night.
