Thousands of people including South African former Presidents, Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlhanthe, dignitaries like Colonel Muamar Gaddafi from Libya, former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, and throngs of ordinary South Africans descended at the Union Buildings on Saturday 9 May 2009 to witness the swearing of the new fourth democratically elected President, Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma.
