Unveiling of warrior Mkiva monument in Dutywa, Eastern Cape – 02 May 2009
On May 2, 2009, the Mkiva family unveiled the Mkiva monument in honour of their ancestor and great warrior in Bolotwa, Dutywa. The Mkiva Monument also marked the 132nd commemoration of this legend’s death. Born in 1795, Mkiva lived a life of great courage and engaged in several wars before he died in battle in 1877. Several dignitaries, including National Government Ministers Sicelo Shiceka and Membathisi Mdladlana, Chief Phathekile Holomisa, and several artists also graced the event.
