African Royals and Traditional Leaders Institute launch – 3 November 2009
Kings, queens and chiefs from across Africa descended to Johannesburg to launch an institute they hope will expand their roles on the continent. The leaders, all the way from Morocco to Swaziland, describe their new Institute of African Royalty as part think-tank on democracy and development. The leaders say their model is anti-apartheid icon and former President Nelson Mandela. Among the dignitaries were president of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa, King Tchiffi Zie Jean Gervais of Ivory Coast, Queen Ama Nana Amissah III from Ghana, Best Kemigisa, the queen mother of Toro in Uganda and Prince Xhanti Sigcawu. Popular South African Afro-soul and jazz artist, Camagwini, provided some of the entertainment.
