Rev. Thabo Makgoba enthroned as primate of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa
The Most Rev. Thabo Makgoba was enthroned as primate of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa on March 30 at St. George’s Cathedral in Cape Town. South Africa’s President Thabo Mbeki formally greeted Makgoba, paying tribute “to past Anglican leaders, and the church as whole, for their role in defeating apartheid”. Makgoba succeeds Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane who retired at the end of 2007, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu who retired in 1996.
