Remembrance and activism… Che Guevara’s children visit Gugulethu 7 memorial – 19 October 2009

Dr Aleida Guevara and her brother, Camilo Guevara, arrived in South Africa this week. The pair hope South Africans will help pressure President Barack Obama to release five Cuban prisoners still being held in a US maximum security prison. The Guevaras visited many Cape Town sites, including the memorial to the Gugulethu 7 and District Six Museum.

The children of liberation icon Che Guevara young when their father was killed in Bolivia on October 8, 1967. Brought to South Africa by the Friends of Cuba Society (Focus-SA), their visit co-incides with the 50th anniversary of the Cuban revolution.
