Gugulethu 7 Commemoration – 3 March 2009

Hundreds of former Umkhonto weSizwe combatants in uniform commemorated the Gugulethu 7 who were slain on the day, 23 years ago by the apartheid government. As part of the day’s events the combatants went on a door-to-door campaign in New Rest to make people aware of the elections and to encourage the residents to vote for the ANC. Among the speakers was ANC NEC member Membathisi Mdladlana, General Nqose, ANC WC Chairperson Mcebisi Skwatsha and Alliance leaders.
